I'm not a writer... but if I were, this is what I'd write about.

Song Cry

"I can't see it coming down my eyes/so I gotta make this song cry"
-Jay Z

Okay there are only two songs in the history of music that have ever made me cry.

Beyonce's "Daddy" was the first. My father, who passed away when I was in 7th grade, was very influential in my life and the song reminded me so much of him that I used to cry every time it was played. I actually haven't heard it in years because I decided that it was actually too painful to listen to and I've refused to play it anymore.

My father was just very close to my heart and it's difficult listening to a song that reminds me of all the pivotal points in my life that he missed... and all the times that I needed him and he wasn't there. So for that, I'm not a punk.

Song #2, that I heard for the first time today, may classify me as a punk, or something like it.

I downloaded Ne-yo and Jazmine Sullivan's CD a couple of days ago (Ne-yo's CD is amazing by the way) and I'm just now getting around to Jazmine's. I knew I was going to love the CD after I heard "Bust Your Windows" (no need to explain what that song is about). I made it through to Track #4 "Lions, Tigers & Bears" and that's when the tears fell.

And I wasn't just crying. I was sitting at my desk at work, wiping my face... trying to stop crying.

Does anyone know a lawyer that specializes in intellectual property? Because I'm pretty sure that Jazmine Sullivan is guilty of somehow managing to steal my deepest emotions and making a song about them. I'm sure it'll be hard to prove but there's no way she wrote this song independently of me and I want my credit.

"Just cuz I love you/and you love me/It doesn't mean that we're meant to be/I can climb mountains/swim cross the seas/But the most frightening thing is you and me/I'm not scared of lions and tigers and bears/But I'm scared of loving you/I'm not scared to perform at a sold out affair/but I'm afraid of loving you/am I the only one that thinks it's an impossible task/why it don't last/is that too much to ask?/why do we love love/when love seems to hate us?"

There's more... you gotta hear this song and the entire CD yourself. If you miss Lauryn Hill like I do, Jasmine is competing to fill that void and I think she may also be giving Ne-Yo a run for his money but you can be the judge of that. Get the CD! I'm begging you!
