I'm not a writer... but if I were, this is what I'd write about.

Mary Mary's "The Sound"

So I went to the Re-Up last night at Faithful Central Bible Church. My friend had been asking me to go for FOREVER, and since she had just blessed me with some help with my research on this series of black churches that I'm writing I decided that last night was as good a time as any to go down there and see what they're talking about. I must say that I'm not the biggest church person but I do believe. I'm not a conservative, I do not believe in a literal translation of the Bible but I do believe that their is so much good in the religion as far as giving you guidelines on the way you should be living your life.

I was very lucky because I apparently ended up there on one of the few nights that Kirk Franklin is actually present. There was a discussion about gospel music that was both interesting and completely off topic but Franklin brought it up because he was trying to figure out how to reach to young people through music I suppose. The question centered around the question: Do you like when secular music beats/styles are mixed with gospel or should they be separate?

Some really insightful comments were made but one girl said that she had the perfect example of a good mix of gospel and secular music and that was "It's the God in Me," a song off of Mary Mary's new album "The Sound."

She was right. It's an AMAZING example of a successful mix of gospel and secular music. If you're not nodding your head or "jerking" (doing the hood dance lol) by the end of this song, I don't know what's wrong with you! Plus I think the message in this song is great to reach secular audiences. I hope to see Mary Mary release this song soon.
