Something to Think About

My co-worker shared an interesting piece of information with me today...

It turns out that little Obama cutie, Sasha, isn't Sasha. Well that is to say, that that's not her real name. Little Sasha's real name is, get this... Natasha. hhm

Personally I like the name Sasha better than Natasha but I'm wondering how she came to be known as Sasha and not by her given name, or the shortened version of it- Tasha. My sneaky suspicion is that Sasha is the watered down (read: white) version of the name Natasha. Clearly Natasha and Tasha are very ethnic sounding despite their German origins. If you heard the name Natasha Obama, you definitely don't think of good ole America (in the Sarah Palin sense of the country at least).

So I'm going to ask the question that no one else is: Do you think that the Obama's are calling her Sasha because the name is more acceptable to white America? If you disagree, would you still feel that way if we later found out that Malia's name is actually Marika or something? Just a thought...
